FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
$20,000 in Grants AwardedHuber Heights Courier, January 2007
In their December meeting, the Huber Heights Athletic Foundation (HHAF) reviewed 4 grant requests received from the Huber Heights City Schools and approved the expenditure of more than $20,000. The Foundation gains the majority of its money for grant requests through the operation of bingo on each Saturday and Sunday. The State of Ohio places numerous restrictions on the disbursement of these funds. One such requirement is that the precipitants must be a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization. This restricts the Foundation from providing funds to individuals or organization that do not fall into this category. The Foundation approved grant requests from the City Schools totaling $19,750. Those grant request were for the SRO Crime Watch program - $12,000, $7,000 was provided to the seven elementary schools to cover the expense to have such activities as COSI visits to the schools, also approved was a $750 grant request for the purchase of indoor soccer practice equipment. The HHAF also donated $100 to five extra curricular actives for their support with “Cookies with Santa.” Those organizations were Wayne Football, Fall Cheerleaders, the National Honor Society, and SRO. Parents with children in school, or tax exempt organizations, may choose to help in conducting bingo and receive educational/organizational credits for each day worked. The funds can then be used to pay for school book fees and/or participation fees for student athletics or applied to the organization goals. Those wishing to volunteers can call the Foundation office at 233-8618 or Terri Frey at 233-5016.
